What if I do make it to the top of the ladder, only to discover it is leaning against the wrong wall? If I am created by God for eternity, I need to make sure all my priorities are in line with His. If this life is all there is, I will invest my time and energy in self-centered things that are temporary. If I am God-centered, I must consider everything I value in light of eternity. Jesus once asked, "what value is it to gain the whole world, but lose your soul?"
Cultivating a love relationship with God is something that will last. It is what God wants for me. He pursues that relationship. So, I need to spend more time "becoming" what He wants me to be and discovering His agenda, than I spend "doing" what I want. Being busy won't necessarily make me better.
I need to move my ladder to the right wall.
