As you read through chapter two, you will be challenged to rethink your definition of the "gospel." As I read this, I couldn't help but think of Dr. Smith's mentor, Dallas Willard. He has been quoted as saying something like "we don't need to get more people into heaven, we need to get heaven into more people." Think about that for awhile.
This chapter is not promoting something strange and unbiblical. Dr. Smith is pointing out there is more to Jesus' story than "going to heaven when you die." When you read the Sermon on the Mount through this new lens, things start to make even more sense.
Reflect upon this key statement: The kingdom of God is a present reality that will be fully consummated in the future.
Read with an open mind. You don't have to agree with everything. But . . . what if this is the gospel many have never heard? How would that change the way you live?
