Man's Best Friend

Happiness is a warm puppy. ~ George M. Schultz

This weekend, our puppy, Jelly Bean, died suddenly. It was sudden and shocking to us. He was such a smart, loving, happy little guy. There's nothing better than having your dog greet you at the door at the end of a long day . . . no expectations, just affection.

I am surprised how sad I have been. Perhaps I am getting sentimental in my old age. Maybe it was because he licked my face the first time he met me. Maybe I was able to open my heart in a different way to this little puppy than I do with the people in my life. Maybe it was my opportunity to practice unconditional love. I have learned some things from my short time with my little buddy Jelly Bean.

  • Enjoy every blessing God gives you.
  • Don't hold back, show your love.
  • Unconditional love breaks down even the hardest heart.
  • Sing a little bit every day (I was teaching him to sing).
  • Take time to enjoy the little things God gives us to enjoy, like puppies.

I am missing the little guy today. The house seems a little emptier now. I'm not sure there are dogs in heaven . . . but I sure hope so!
